I acquired Mr. C-R-I-B-O last spring. He's a 7-7.5 foot long unicolor. I offered him frozen/thawed rats at first, and he wouldn't so much as look at them. In fact he tried to get away from them. This went on until I thought he was looking too skinny, so finally I tried a live rat, and he grabbed it pretty quick. I noticed he seemed to be attracted to the movement. I immediately offered him a frozen/thawed rat as that one was going down, and he took it. That was the last time he would take f/t.
Since then I've been giving him live mice and rats, and occasionally offering him a r/t mouse or rat, but no luck.
Well, one thing I noticed is he seemed to be unhappy with the proximity of my hand. He's a very undefensive snake, and very much prefers flight over fight. He seemed to be under a conflict because he could smell the rodent, but was put off by my hand. I was using 6" long forceps.
Well, at Daytona last month I bought a pair of long forceps (or are they hemostats?). Well, I've now had him feed two weeks in a row off these new forceps, taking multiple f/t rodents each feeding. My hand is, apparently, a comfortable distance away from the food and he doen't hesitate to grab them, although I do have to give them a little twitch (which also didn't work before).
He's now putting on weight and I expect he'll get nice and chunky as a cribo should be.
In other drymarchon news, my baby blacktails are both taking f/t hoppers on their own. I even had my very nervous baby female take hers off the shorter forceps today.
I'm in drymarchon heaven. ;-)
