I have a good friend of mine who I first introduced to snakes last year. He came over, and I showed him some snakes, one of which is a black-tail cribo. He was blown away by the beauty of it, and I decided to give it to him as a gift. It was a captive-born BT from 2001, so it was young and healthy when he took it home, that is very important. Getting a healthy animal can possibly mean paying more, and getting refernces on people....but it is worth the time and money. Anyway, I gave it to him as a first snake without any concern at all, knowing that he could handle it, since I knew he was'nt an idiot. And the rest is history.....less than a yeat later, the snake is thriving (he never had a problem keeping it), and he is now an avid Green Tree Python keeper, which I would agrue are much more difficult to keep. Just my opinion.
So, my point is this.....if you are a lazy, stupid, piece of crap, don't get ANY snakes! However, if you truly care about animals and they're needs, and are WILLING to study, work, and pay for they're requirements, NO snake is the wrong snake to get as a first snake. Obviously, many will call me crazy, but don't be scared away by the indigos and cribos, they are not that difficult, if you truly WANT to learn about snake keeping. My friend is the perfect example. Also, get a CRIBO, they cost less and are prettier! Sorry indigo guys! However, if you do decide to get an indigo, buy from one of the people who regularly post on this forum, they are the best. See.....I'm not your enemy, indigo breeders! Just a cribo lobbyist.
