Well, a report about Daytona, from home.
This was my third year in a row of going to this show. My first year I didn't even know what a drymarchon was, although I do remember seeing a couple "black tail cribos" because I almost bought one, even though at the time I didn't know what it was. The little snake just had something about it - I could tell it was something special.
This year there were more cribos than ever, as far I could tell. However, despite the rule of "captive bred only," a fair number of them were obviously imports. One vendor even admitted to me the ones he was selling were wild caught, and so were his spilotes (it did seem odd to find apparently captive bred spilotes yearlings for $50).
The only species of drymarchon I saw this year, as with years past, were melanurus. The big news is that these seem to have dropped in price from around $125-$150 to $80 - $85. I acquired a pair of blacktails last month for $85 each, these were produced by a reputable private breeder. I bought them because of the price, and because of the breeder.
I was hoping someone would have Texas indigos, but no luck. One local herper I know that breeds them, who also had a table at the show, says he hasn't had much luck with them this year.
In my opinion, your best bet to get quality drymarchon is still going to be private breeders, not herp shows, not even the mother of all captive bred herp shows.
