: Why does everyone seem to be down on melamine cages, it's got to be better than the first cage I used (a converted TV cabinet). You can sure build one for a lot less than a large vision cage, or am I missing something. I hope this doesn't sound too dumb, but I want to get as much info BEFORE I purchase my snake. Thanks, Jim
Jim,
Well Melamine cages have their place, and yes they certainly look good. But for really messy snakes or snakes with, how shall we say?, WATERY FECALS, Melamine cages tend to hold on not only to the smell, but if not sealed properly they ABSORB water and puff up! Yes, it's cheaper to buyild one than a large Vision Cage, but haveing used both with Drymarchon, I would definetly lean toward the Vision cages, they can be easily taken out in the yard and sanitized, they are lightweight, durable, the only downfault is that you can't stack other cages on top of them, or put other items on top of them without the tracks to the doors compressing, makeing it difficult if not impossible to remove them for cleaning. Freedom Breeder produces a rack system that although really expensive looks really good also. There are many choices, the Visions just happen to be mine.
