The quote "The thought of that head masticating my thumb leaves me w/ goose bumps." , brings back memories of a yellowtail I once had for a very short time. I assure you that the goosebumps that you felt were justified.
I purchased this fine monster in Fla many years ago from non other than Tommy Crutchfield at the very first Orlando herp show. She was well over 7 ft and just as pretty as can be. Once I got her back to my hotel room I decided to unbag her and have another look. At that same moment she decided to have a closer look at my right calf muscle. Within 2 secs blood was gushing down the back of my leg and the snake showed no sign of letting go. I could hear it tearing little bits of flesh with it's sharp teeth and rigid jaw and all I could do was hold it till it decided it wasn't going to be able to fit me down. It lasted for only about 30 secs but it seemed like hours. When she was done I gently tossed her right into the bath tub and cursed for a sec or two before I got up the courage to grab her and put her back in the bag.
The next day I decided that this big girl was gonna be too much for me to handle so I brought her back to Mr. C and asked for my dinero back. We'll let's just say I never saw the $$$$$ again nor the cribo but I didn't learn that they sure do pack a hell of a bite.
