: Hey all, I don't have an indigo just a python and corn snake.. but i think indigos are one of the most prettiest snakes in the world. I would love to own one. But they are endangered in FLorida (I don't know if they are endangered nationally) but i know they are in Florida. Does that mean i can't own one? or would i have to get a permit?
Mike,
If you LIVE in the state of Florida, then you cant have one, period. In the states of New Jersey,Virginia,Georgia, and Mississippi, you have to have a special STATE use permit to have them. If you live in any other state, you must apply for a federal permit, which cost $25 and can take about 9 weeks to get. If you go to www.indigosnakes.com, there is more information on the permit process and a download of the forms you will need to buy one. If you dont live in any of the states listed above, then you can ALSO but an indigo in your own home state and not have to buy ANY permit. The permit is for interstate transportation, so if you buy from out of state you will need it. Contact Victoria Davis at 404 679-4176 and go on the Indigosnakes.com webiste to get more grat info and down load the forms you will need to fill out and submit. Best of luck to you.
Sincerely,
Fred Albury
