I was looking over the application for an Interstate Commerce Permit and had a few questions. I was hoping you might help me with them. The application asks for the birth date of the “specimens”. I do not know this because I’m on a waiting list for hatchling indigos that aren’t yet born. I was trying to get the permits ahead of time to avoid excessive delays once the snakes are ready to go. Can I just give something like “Summer 2003”?
I’m also not sure what to do about “Provide a complete description with photographs and / or diagrams of the area and facilities where the wildlife will be held in captivity, and description of arrangements for care during transportation and maintenance”. Do they want a photo of the cages and snake room, or do they want blue prints to my house?
Finally, the application asks me to “List mortalities resulting from your activities with these or similar species in the last two years. Provide an explanation of each mortality event and the procedures employed or modified to eliminate any future mortality events”. By "similar species", do they mean Drymarchon only, or snakes in general? I’ve kept numerous types of snakes for many years but never any indigos / cribos. Do they want to know about my experiences with pythons, boas, crots and other colubrids?
Thanks for any help. This is my first time applying for a federal permit.
