We all know how powerful these guys are as adults. Once per ounce, they feel as muscular and powerful as any constrictor.

racers and garter snakes and coachwhips and other "catch and swallow" snakes just are not that strong and bulky like Drymarchon.

That size and strength has to have a functional purpose...otherwise they would have ended up faster, lankier snakes better suited for running down prey.
