I would highly recommend an eastern indigo IF you are willing to put in the time for DAILY maintenance. Unlike corn snakes, you can expect to clean the cage almost daily (in one form or another)...these snakes are pooping machines (and doesn't have the most pleasant odor!). Adults can live quite comfortably in a 4' x 2' cage, however, I keep my pair in 6' x 3' cages and they use every square inch (they are kept separately at our nature center). Males will get bigger than females but expect a snake at least 6' + in length. Other than that, you can keep them in similar conditions as corn snakes (temps in the upper 70's cool end to upper 80's on warm end with a night time drop). I provide humidity boxes filled with dampened spagnhum moss and my easterns spend time there daily. I prefer newspaper as a bedding although it is more time consuming to clean. Our indigos are fed bi-weekly on appropriately sized rodents and grow very quickly. You can expect to pay around $300-350 for an eastern indigo from a reputable breeder (several on this forum I highly recommend). If you need more info let me know. I love these snakes and despite the amount of time I invest in keeping them in good healthy it is time well spent for these magnificent creatures.

: Hi Folks;

: My name is Dean I live in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada & I have been an "Indigo fan" for years. I currently have a small collection of corn snakes & @ some point would like to have an Indigo only problem is I don't know a whole lot about these snakes other than they have a very appealing appearance. I don't believe in just getting something because it's 'pretty'. I would only want one if it seemed like I could provide it with a suitable home.

: I was just wondering if someone could provide me with some fairly general information on these guys such as if they are a hard breed to maintain, if there are any breeders in Canada & approximately how much a hatchling or an adult would cost. Thanks for any help you can offer me.

: Yours truly
: Dean
