While guiding a GREENTRACKS expedition southwest of Iquitos, Peru this past July, Bill Lamar and I scared up a huge yellow-tailed cribo. The snake was out in dense rainforest in the early afternoon. This was the first for me in seven years I've worked in the Northern Amazon and only the second for Bill (in Peru). Typical of the dozens of "indigos" I've captured over the years, it was a stinking, biting terror at first but soon calmed down. Upon arrival back at the boat we measured the snake using six people and monofilament fishing line. Nine feet, one inch exactly! A male (of course). Black dorsally with a mahogany overcast. Yellow face, belly and tail. We photographed it in a natural setting as well as in the arms and around the necks of three and four people at a time. I've caught longer colubrids but none larger overall. He was a world-class snake and I'm sure he's feasting on Bothrops and boa constrictors as I write this account. Just a cool note for the new forum. TV
