I recently had a yearling Eastern Indigo male have a colon prolapse. I took it to the vet and she reinserted the colon, using me as an assistant so I could learn how to treat it. Well the little guy did it again. All he was passing was a little uric pellet. He actually tore the sutures the vet put in and the edges of the vent too.
I reinserted the tissue with my wife's help (what a trooper she is) but I dont have much hope for the little guy. He's on an antibiotic regimen from the previous prolapse so infection probably wont occur. But he's not an integral part of my breeding group and besides, he is turning out to be quite frail. Probably not the best genes to pass on anyway. He is super tame and handleable.
The vet said there is surgery. It is more invasive (and more expensive) but it can help.
If anyone out there is interested, he's free for the taking. He WILL require surgery to correct his condition. I will recommend a couple of good herp vets. I live in the Seattle area and I wont ship him.
Contact me by Email if you are interested.
