: I looked up the pictures you mentioned. You may have a typo on the second one, I couldn't get. However the first one is indeed mislabled. The photo was scanned from "Living snakes of the world" by Mehrtens (page 137). It is an Eastern indigo (D.c.couperi). The way to tell for sure is look at the triangle shaped scale under the eye. On the Eastern, the scales on either side will meet above the triangle and touch. The Texas (D.c.erebennus) has a larger trinagle scale and the two side scales can't touch each other. Hope this is clear.
