: Can I get some ideas from experience as to what the average number of hatchlings Easterns, say, out of a clutch of 10 that will go for rodents right off the bat? The eggs are over one month in the cooker and still goin' strong -- BIG KOOL-AID SMILE...
: Thanks, JK
JK,
My observation over the years is this. They fire off independently, just like cylinders in a car.
What I mean by that is that out of anyt given clutch, they will come to accept food on alternate days, sometimes 1or2 days apart, sometimes MONTHS apart. As for the amount that accept rodents right off the bat, after looking at my records, I would say less than 10%. that translates to 1 out of your 10. Realize that a number of the eggs may or may not hatch. To early to count ANYTHING. I hope for you that they all hatch and after that we can deal with the headache of getting them to feed. So, my answer to you is 10% overall, allthough some years have been as high as 50% on rodents right away and other years as low as 5% of them BARELY takeing a rodent. Drama.....Eastern Indigo Style.
Sincerely,
Fredrick Albury
