All,
Below are a couple of links that B and I found useful. Both provide info on what Klez does, how it operates and manual removal instructions (not for the faint of heart). Of note, one of the things Klez does is try to disable antivirus software. In B's machine it prevented loading of antivirus software. Although the info contained on the webpages provided below does not indicate complete hard drive failure as a payload, I find it interesting that the drive on my machine smoked itself after B's machine was infected. Hmmm...
It DOES copy to networked drives and we are networked. Hmmm..
Personally I find it useful to pop out to these sites weekly to see what virus alerts they have posted. Both organizations are good at keeping up on the new stuff that these obviously intelligent but socially challenged programmers set loose on us. Frankly, I only let the guard down for a short period of time and that's all that it took. Costly lesson, I guess constant vigilance is the key.
Anyway hope the lurking spousal unit was able to assist a little.
OBTW RegalRingneck or any of you can name your price for the Cribo that can eat this 6'-1" 215lb "morsel". ;-)
