Karen Dyer, the U of Central FL grad student doing the reproductive research, currently has 2 gravid females, one carrying 10 and one carrying 6 eggs that she is tracking. She is going to be in the field ALL SUMMER tracking. She’s going to find the nests. Bank on it. Exciting stuff. I managed to get some money committed from local herp societies to assist in her research…but they need more. Anyone interested in finding ways to help contribute or wanting more details, email me.
A new study will be started in S. Georgia this fall ! I have been invited to help with the initial surveying (basically, trying to find the snakes!) and of course am psyched to help. Looking into methods to attract the snakes…like shed skins from ovulating females, and even thinking of trying to teach my dog to search for them! More details to come. I will be personally conducting BURROW TEMPERATURE STUDIES when I go down there. I will share data.
