: Is Drymarchon corais couperi the largest North American snake? Also, is there any noticeable size difference between males and females? Input from Chuck and others would be appreciated.
According to all the reference material I've ever seen, the D.c.couperi is the largest snake native to NA. Some say the largest non-venomous snake as the Timber and Eastern Diamonds get quite large also. I believe they do weigh more, but the Indigo is longer. I have had several over 8' long, both male and female. I don't know of any formal studies on the difference in size between the sexes but I would have to say that my males do average a little larger than the females. I have other Drymarchon (D.c.corais) that are larger at over 9'. This doesn't mean that all adults will get this size. Just like all other animals they grow at different rates. I've had several that never exceeded 7' long no matter how much I fed them.
