: : Is Drymarchon corais couperi the largest North American snake? Also, is there any noticeable size difference between males and females? Input from Chuck and others would be appreciated.
: : All of my North American references list Couperi as the largest snake in N.A.
: All of the really monster - size Indigos I've seen have been males. I've only owned 5 in my life so I'm no authority, but I've seen a few really impressive ones...all males.
Eastern Indigos are undoubtedly the largest Colubrid residing in the U.S.A., really large Bullsnakes come in a close second. Males get bigger than females, the largest one I ever owned was (I beleive) some where in the ballpark of 8 ft. Have seen pictures of larger ones, and saw a Texas Indigo (Cribo) at last Reptile show that was AT LEAST 8 feet, if not nine(IT was a huge, fat monster(MALE).
