Wright&Wright states Txns "seen" bigger than easterns, but then doesn't offer proof...It seems as tho it would make sense as the farther south we go, MOST colubrids seem to get longer...Maybe they just live longer because of lack of "civilizations" influence and destruction..
Tx Indigos are still fairly plentiful in the wild...Ask anyone who hunts deer or quail in S Tx.. I'll bet they've seen them often...I remember catching 7 in 1 day as a kid in the 60's, and then just not chasing the others...I actually let them go after a short while in captivity (I KNOW BAD CARL, but we didn't know any better then!!!) because nobody wanted these 7'+ big active snakes!!
Those days may be gone, but I've seen a few every time I go hunting in the south part of the Republic of Texas these days...
And I actually wouldn't get bent out of shape over handling one in the wild for pics...They won't bite you and as long as you let them go, I don't THINK you've broken the law...Could be wrong on that one tho...And someone will disagree with handling a wild creature at all, but hey, not much controversy in her lately!!
: Are they both really rare to see in the wild these days? Don't worry I am not going to even touch a wild one if I ever even saw one.
