That's what I'm saying: my guys don't seem to take fluctuation in the barometric pressure as any signal whatsoever, as over here in eastern Canada there just isn't any significant variation in frequency of precipitation across the four seasons, and they sure won't mate over the summer months, as I've tried it for fun more than once. So I just look at the calendar and know they'll be able and willing starting November and throughout winter. My last mating this year was March 15.
I now delay the onset of my mating season by only starting introductions in Jan so the interval between the last mating and ovulation/fertilisation isn't too long. So I basically just wait for the female's first shed of the year and introduce. Males might not always be interested every time (rarely!), but it's just a matter of days before they come around if not.
But back to the barometer thing. I'm under the impression the rainier season in their home range is mostly in the warmer months, so not only would they be theoretically be stimulated to breed all year round if that was a major mating behavior trigger, but it would be mostly so in summer, unless my knowledge of Florida weather patterns is way off (a distinct possibility!)
Just a thought..
