As a keeper of Mastiffs and Indigos, I'm familiar with what you're talking about.
The issue with the Mastiffs is a little different than with the snakes. Mastiff puppies need adult dog food because it's lower in protein. Too much protein makes their bones grow faster than the tendons and ligaments. Once they are adults, the higher protein diet is ok (My dog Tonka gets 12-18 lbs of meat a week).
With "young" drymarchon, it's tough to over feed. After a year or two, it gets easier. Once they are adults, it's really easy to overfeed them. My male indigo who is near 8 feet long, gets 1-2 medium rats a month.
Feeding every 4-5 days for a young indigo is probably not going to be a problem. What will be a problem is conditioning yourself not to feed it as often as it reaches adult size.
