here's how they are easier than most snakes, at least in my climate. They require very little environmental control, meaning that you dont typically need to supply heat (I'm in los angeles. pity me). they can take it cooler than most colubrids that are commonly kept, and actually seem to like it in the mid to high 70's. pretty easy for the average person to maintain.
also, once they are a little older, you wont find many snakes that are as docile and easy going.
downside:
they eat like a monitor lizard (alot, and often).
they poop like a monitor lizard (alot, often and STINKY). personally, i dont find the smell as bothersome as most people, but then again, my girlfriend is gassy.
being a pretty rare snake, the loss of an indigo is more of a tragedy than with a cornsnake or a burmese python (i know how that sounds, so dont moralize to me please).
they are also quite expensive. not only are they costly to purchase, but they require larger caging than similiarly sized snakes, plus, like i mentioned above, they eat an insane amount of food.
