The male Texas Indigo I use to breed with my female bit her up really good while she was off on breeding loan. Probably 10 bites, including taking the tip of her tail. The bites all seemed to be healing just fine, until 2 months later when all the bites began to fester. Now she's on an antibiotic routine, like Robs, only the male didn't have the decency to actually fertilize her.
I do have a thought that might help those who have overly agressive males, and that is to put the animals together to mate when they are at the coolest time of the day at the coolest time of the year. A male indigo whose body is down to 55 degrees can't bite as hard, but wont be detered from mating.
