: Where did you get the info on the tortoise temps?
: It really seems peculiar to me that the temps would remain a constant 76.
: It gets down into the 40s in FL winters, I would think the burrows would drop down to 55 during that period.
: I'd like to see stats year round for burrow temps so that not only can we decide the best egg incubation temps, but also ideal cooling temps for indigos in the winter. I have always assumed that the temps will drop as low as 55 in the burrows during the coldest parts of winter, and I therefore subject my snakes to nightime drops accordingly.
: It has been noted that indigos will bask in the winter sun when it is in the upper 50's...so it would be logical to assume the burrow is colder than the outside temps at that time.
: I have someone in FL that I have in mind for this project. I really want to find out for sure now.
: Here's the reason for the doubt on whether they are laying in the burrows: they have been tracking over 40 indigos on KSC for 4 years. THey find gravid females every year, but never a nest. They have confirmed that the tortoise burrows are a favorite retreat and even breeding site, but, even after running burrow cams down literally 100s of gt burrows that indigos were using, have never once found a nest or even an egg fragment.
: makes ya go hmmmm.....

Jeez, I'm glad to see i started something -- but i think we can all agree that it's an important factor in proper captive husbandry and it's interesting to see varying info and opinions. Dean, please keep us posted on your friend too. And Philler, back down into the burrows :-)~ .
