In Reply to: does x-raying gravid females harm eggs? posted by Dean Alessandrini on March 18, 2002 at 09:39:28:
The subject line is from the Ross-Marzec book on pthons and boas.
My vet said it this way, "The farther along in the developement, the less risk there is".
Ultrasound is safer if that's an option.
X-Rays are teratogenic and probably would add another level of risk to wild indigo babies.
Although the Ross/Marzec book "The reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas" is about Pythons and Boas, not indigos, there are a lot of things in that book that are usefull to those that are keeping or studying any type of reptile. A few pages and some really ugly pictures discuss the use of x-rays with gravid females. Have your friend read over the pages in that book to help him determine what todo.
