Drymarchon birds & bees 101

From reading this forum I've gathered that the Drymarchons aren't the snake of choice for learning snake breeding.

What snake does make a good "starter" for learning breeding methods?

My erebennus is a yearling, so I have plenty of time to practice (and find a mate as I understand that the Texans are as uncommon as the proverbial hen's teeth).
