Marco:
In my experience gravid females usually go through 3 stages:
Stage 1: eat everything in sight and take your hand off trying to get food stage (early in gravid stage)
Stage 2: still eat small items, but typically refuse any medium to large meals
Stage 3 : refuse food altogether.
By the time they are refusing food, it should less than 2 weeks before they go blue, and into their pre-lay shed cycle. After they finally shed out, then you have anywhere from 7 to as long as 24 days before they deposit the eggs, As Doug said, go ahead and prepare the nest box and put it in the cage, just in case.
When females are in the later stages of gravid, it should be pretty obvious. They are noticeably swollen toward the back end. The back end is kind of rigid and very firm to the touch.
Good luck,
Dean Alessandrini
