They are half the price or less, and are even easier than indigos (they thrive at room temps) to keep but very similar in appearance.
Often folks describe them as a "Poor Man's Indigo" which I think is wrong (Black tail cribos get that title). I think they are better described as the "Ultimate Milk Snake". It sounds like you are new to snakes so black milks are probably a better snake for you to work with anyway.

: they are nearly solid black as adults, they have a nice shine, are not shy and are easily held, and eat just as voraciously as any indigo.
: oh, they are also the largest of all milksnakes, and i have a feeling they are larger than any kings as well. i think the largest one topped out at over 7 feet long!
: they are a really neat snake, though i do like my indigos more.
