: : Has anyone noticed a difference in red intensity in red phase eastern indigos? I mean, is the color more genetically related or sex related? Has anyone noticed that males in the clutches have brighter red than their sisters OR VICE VERSA?

: Last year I bred a white chinned male to a red/mohogany female. Ten fertile eggs were produced from this union. Two eggs died along the way. The remaining 8 eggs hatched producing 5 red throats, three black. Sex ratio in the reds was 3.2. The snake with the most red in the chin and throat areas was a female also the largest hatchling. Second was a male followed by the other female then males. What I really found interesting with this clutch was egg shape. The white chinned/black babies all hatched from definite elongated oval shaped eggs while the reds came out of eggs that looked exactly like very large chicken eggs. I noticed this when one baby from each egg group slit the egg and was proven right as the other eggs began to hatch( this will be red, this white chinned black etc.) Anybody noticed this??? Would love to hear your thoughts.
