Since other animals have been bred in captivity, raised for various lenths of time with limited human interference & have been reintroduced into the wild (with varying degrees of success, Condors & ferrets come to mind) Indigos of all snakes, because of their inteligence, aught to have a chance. No statistics, but it seems likely yearlings would do much better then hatchlings if they could be fed food from natural sources & conditioned to prey avoidance. Sounds expensive, would there ever be funding to reintroduce "snakes", and we can't forget education, big, black, diurnal snakes are a target, they're even run over on KSC. Lastly, animals from the nearest gene pool to the area of liberation would be best, but if not available I guess in the interest of the animal we would have to make do, thats also one of the problems with using animals already in captivity (if you can get enough people to part with them to set up a viable colony) do most of us know what part of the range the parents of our animals originally came from or that they were bred to animals from the same area? May be less important under the circumstances, but "gene pools" are always hot topics among biologists (& on this forum).
