: : I've been doing alot of research on Indigos and hope to aquire a pair in the near future, I've come across some conflicting info with UVB. I've read from some caresheets that they need UVB lighting, others say that they need D3 supplementation, and others say they don't need UVB at all???? Seeing as Indigos are large, black, diurnal, active hunters would suggest to me that UVB would be necessary. Can someone clarify this for me once and for all??

: Chris,
: I have used UVB before on all my easterns and noticed no appreciable diffrence in either behaviour or reproduction and egg fertility rates.
: I dont use it now. Again , at one point i had all my cages outfitted with UVB,I think that Indigos are diurnal hunters, that come out to thermoregulate for short periods, not all day long as our UVB bulbs mimic. Just a thought.
: Fred
I agree with Fred I don't think if is essential for their well being. I have had eggs produced without the use of uv lighting. Good point, you do not often see indigos basking except in the cooler months of the year and then only for short periods of time.
