The Louisiana Pine snake has been released into the wild through the studbook program run by Dr Reichling at the Memphis Zoo. I believe that they do a significant amount of radio tracking with the released specimens which are released into prime habitat (what's left). They have the same concerns about genetics and disease. From what I have read, the released animals behave as wild animals do.
I don't understand that since the indigo snake is protected by the endangered species act as a threatened animal, why isn't there a studbook program for them?
