You should give them a try. I have had success bringing back to health some snakes that were having some serious digestive problems. I have not found them to be a total substitute for flagyl or ivermectin, but it can certainly work wonders on pathogens that haven't gotten too much of a strong hold on a snake. I still sometimes have problems with giardia getting out of controll, but haven't had problems with coccidia in years. My collection was once infested with pseudomonus. A friend told me about using lactobacillus to treat pseudomonus in farm animals. I tried it on my snakes and the pseudomonus was completely gone within a week. That ended a lot of stress not to mention save my sanity. Since you are soon to be a vet you ought to consider studying to see if probiotics has any effect on salmonella, and maybe we as herpers can have something to use as a counter against these animal rights fanatic organizations that keep popping up out of the woodwork.
