There is a wide margin of safety in most animals. Unfortunately there are alot of people who think that one dosage is correct. This is why having a relationship with a reputable REPTILE vet is crutial. Sure it is easy to calculate the dose but is it the correct dose? If you are working with someone reputable they will have the experience and resources to find you a correct dose. Obviously the dose for an Indigo, a chameleon and a dog are quite different not only in dose but also in the intervals given. : : I am fortunate enough to work at a practice that has VIN (Veterinary Information Network) which give a veterinarian that ability to consult with the greatest minds in the veterinary field via the internet. It is amazing the vets you can consult with. I contacted Dr. Darryl Heard (he is the forum spokesperson for reptile medicine) at the University of Florida (Go Canes, Gators Blow!) as per his recommendations for deworming my Indigo. He stated that he would not recommend using Flagyll above the dose of 50mg per kilo and uses low dose fenbendazole (Panacur) at 20-40mg per kilo for 5 straight days. : : This is an ultra low dose gently spread out over 5 days to gently deworm an Indigo. : : In most boas and pythons (except Ball) you can use 100mg/kg of both and repeat again in 2 weeks. This guys tolerate it well and have dewormed hundreds at this dose without any problems. My Indigo had no problems during or after the deworming process. I injected both meds into prekilled food and fed him once a day. : : I hope in saying this I don't offend the people responsible for keeping most animals around (breeders), but quit giving medical info. It is your responsibility when you purchase ANY animal to find a good veterinarian. We find the best pediatricians for our children, yet we listen to someone (and obviously not everyone on this forum gives good advice) who simply owns a certain species or breeds them. If your child was sick would you follow your nannies advice or your doctors advice? Granted there are a few people in this forum with vast knowledge, but they should serve as a link to better care. People like Dean A., Fred A. and Doug T show their intelligence and are your best links to helping your Indigo. These people present facts and not antedotal experience.
