: Glad your yt's are breeding, what type of temp conditions are you using to initiate the breeding? Please keep us posted on your progress.
: The only direct communication I've have from a sucessful yt breeder is from Chuck Elliot, who did it many times. Chuck said he bred all the subs of Drymarchon (he worked with couperi, erebennus, melanurus, corais and rubidus) in the same manner we know works for easterns. (see Fred and Dougs care sheets)
: I plan on giving that a shot, but with some anti-biotics handy watching closely for respiratory problems.
: I've watched the weather in the native homeland of the yt's (I tend to watch Georgetown, Guyana) and it seems to rarely dip below upper 60's...so subjecting them to upper 50's at night makes me a little nervous.
: Dean A.
dean, i really don't know the answer to breeding yt's...haven't tried yet. but it's possible that the temps nearest the ground and under the undergrowth could be as cool as in the upper 50's at night down there in the winter. more than one person has told me how much cooler it is on the ground in the jungle even in the heat of the midday sun. in fact, it was described to me as being it's own micro-habitat under there by a herpetologist from this area. on the flip side though, my unicolors need only for the temps to hit the 60's at night to induce stimulation and they are not as far south as the yt's.
