: Dean, this one is new...Ivomectin is probably the most commonly used anti-parasitic in the entire Veterinary World..Canines,felines, bovines, equines, herps you name it...All of my vet texts list Ivomec as a first line drug against protzoans, internal and external parasites in reptiles!!
: Anybody else out there with this info or additional info on use of ivomec in Indigos??This is important info to substantiate...
: Now I have 1 post against and 1 post for Flagyl...
: Thanks for your input DA...
: : Carl,
: : I can tell you that I have 3 adult wild caught yellowtails that are all well established now. Upon getting each, I had my vet provide me with a flagyl/panacure mix.
: : I don't have the exact mixture ratio readily available (can get it from the vet) but he gave me the same mixture he suggests for any import snake, that is administered orally (tube) twice. Once right away, then a second dose after about 2-3 weeks. THe dosage is 1 cc per kg of snake.
: : I have had no adverse effects and the snakes arre all healthy.
: : I CAN tell you that Ivermectin (sp?) is toxic to indigos. A florida vet no-knowingly killed several study indigos by treating them with ivermec for parasites.
: : hope this helps...

Hi Folks :)
Flagyl and Ivermectin
Both commonly used medications in the reptile
world.
Unfortunately both have adverse side effects
on all Drymarchon.
Flagyl doses for Indigos have to be reduced
significantly compared to other colubrids.
Even minorly high doses can cause convulsions
and death.
Ivormectin -Have heard horror tales about this
medication, with death being the outcome.
Frankly, I have used flagyl with Drymarchon, but
always at the lowest dosage possible to do the
job.
I have not used Ivormectin for anything.
Most of my snakes are C/B, and therefore I
dont have to take these measures to treat
them for internal parasites.
Ivormectin and Flagyll?
With Drymarchon I would be very carefull
about the dose I deliver to the snake.
Hope this helps, sorry no article or documentation or articles. Just me and my opinion..
*cheers*
