My otherwise very calm and sedate 1.5 year old male couperi lost his mind yesterday.
He's usually ultra calm when we hold him and he will normally sit in our laps for an hour while watching tv. He seems to be impervious to disturbance.
Yesterday, my girlfriends friend's daughter was holding him for awhile. She is this really open minded 11 year old who is into my herps in a big way. She frequently spends the night and helps me clean cages, feed the snakes and frogs, etc.
She has alot of experience handling this one snake in particular (the snakes name is indy). She has held him for over an hour at a time, many times. She eventually wants to get both an indigo and a tegu, another fun reptile that i have.
Anyways, here she is, eating lunch at the table yesterday! indy is curled up on her arm, and she is eating a pb&j sandwich with the other arm.
All of a sudden, indy goes rambo on her arm! He starts gnawing on her like a dog does on a rawhide chew toy! by the time my girlfriend got indy off of her, she must have had 20 puncture marks on her, both on top and on the bottom of her arm!
do any of you have any clue as to what caused this?
my theories are:
1.) he hates the smell of peanut butter.
2.) he was pissed at her for feeding herself, instead of him.
3.) since its winter time, and i am cooling him along with the adult indigos, maybe he's cranky?
Do indigos in the wintertime become more tempermental?
thanks,
dave
