: Legend or history says that Indigos were imported to the USA from some country- maybe Asian... Overseas at least 150 years ago. I believe they are one of the most intelligent snake species excepting the Cobra- Thoughts from you Gurus on this based on your vast experience?
SE,
Maybe not smart inthe sense that they learn things readily, but definetly aware and intelligent. My easterns tend to "watch" me, regardless if I have mice or rats in hand as I pass by the cage(No,I'm not paranoid!)
Eastern Indigos tend to be much more interactive with their keepers than say a ball python or boa. I have heard of retics doing this also, and have heard of owners of easterns that would put their snakedown in the yard, walk across to the other side and the snake would comeacross the lawn and end up crawling up intheir pockets. I dont know if they had dead chicks in that pocket though:) That would explain it.
I try to pul that stunt off with mine, and we would have a 8 ft long black snake flying through neighbors yards. Mine definetly would flunk that test and leave in a heartbeat. Ingrates. :)
Sincerely,
Fred Albury
