I spent some time poking around in Hillsborough Co. over the years looking for indigos, but had far more success around pre-Rodent Orlando/Kissimmee, the Ocala National Forest, Gulf Hammock, Merritt Island and around Lake Okeechobee. The ones I found in the sugar cane fields by the lake often had terra-cotta red bellies from nose to tail. I have encountered a few west and northwest of Gainesville, and have been told they turn up occasionally on the Santa Fe River floodplain.
: been a decline in most of all reptiles. While developement has taken its tolls, in wild areas that remain, indigos appear to be holding there own.
