: How big do Indigos get?
Glad to see this forum. I have long been curious as to how many people keep indigos. Personally, I became enchanted with them as a child, from an experience at Glen Oak Zoo in Peoria, Illinois! I was about six and handled a large adult and never forgot the experience.
The popular notion is that indigos behave like huge black racers or garter snakes, defecating constantly and constantly rubbing their snouts raw trying to escape. This is likely true for wild caught indigos. However, my captive bred indogos never exhibit this behavior. They are active and do defecate a lot because of a higher than typical (for a snake) metabolism. Hence, it is wise to keep a small collection if you want indiigos. Truth be known, if you keep indigos, you may not want to keep much else (my opinion only). Also, the required federal permit is much easier to obtain than is commonly stated. The secret is to find a source of the snakes before you apply for the permit. At any rate, I am glad to see this forum and am curious to learn more about indigos from other.
