I just wanted to say that I read this forum regularly. I was just thinking the other day why over the years I would see a few indigos (Easterns and Texas, NEVER any other subspecies) that looked like 3-4 foot stuffed sausages with normal sized heads, and more often than not, stunted tails. Now, thanks to the responses, I know I'm not crazy! I got a pair of Texas Indigos in trade a few years back from a well-known Drymarchon breeder. I traded them off (I know, I know!...but wait...)and as fate would have it , they BOTH ended up as dwarfs. The female is still alive and well; the male died suddenly a few years back for no apparent cause. Could this be inbreeding? If so maybe current breeders should be wary of this. Question is, how can you tell if you have a dwarf?? The hatchlings I spoke of did have abnormal tails...perhaps an indicator?? Just some random thoughts. Anyway , I really would like to get back into Drymarchon....I used to own and breed( NEVER consistently!!)a beautiful pair of Easterns.....aaah, memories....breeders take note...I have permits and am ready to get some next year...I miss 'em....... cleanin' 'em every 5 minutes and everything!!
