Get an appropriately sized tupperware container to use as a hide box. Take peat moss and fill the bottom 1/4. Add water until it is just damp. cut a hole in the top of the container as an access hole.
Keep the moss just damp. This has been a permanent cure for retained eyecaps. I've never had trouble with it since I did this.
Try it.

: Dean,
: We treated a kingsnake today for the same exact problem, only this snakes outcome wasn't as favorable as yours.
: It was pretty much the same scenario as yours. Following a shed the snake retained both spectacles. The owner took the snake to see a so called reptile vet. The vet proceeded to very "gently" pull the spectacle off. Upon doing so he tore the cornea and made a 5mm laceration on the eye. After referring his patient to us we were able to anesthetize him and sew it up. Follow it up with topical AB's. The snake will never have a normal eye or vision. Not to mention the cost of having to pay for our services (Over $300).
: This problem is a result of low humidity. He's basiclly too dry. Try to keep it high especially when in shed. Spray him directly, use a soaked clay pot as a hidebox, if on shavings spray them directly.
: Always be careful around eyes, I am glad to hear you removed without any problems. Hope this helps. Good luck.
