: OK..I've decided NOT to try to breed my female Eastern this year..I found out she was a '99 production, not '98, my mistake..Even though she's 5.5' plus, I think I should hold off until next year...I am going to try my Texas pr... I'm cooling them them down and will try to put them together next month or Jan..Seems the logical time for a S Tx snake to be cooled and then breed..All comments welcome..Carl
Carl,
What you have done is VERY prudent and smart. Often, people are in a rush to breed their snakes and get their offspring to the market so as to make money, OR perhaps they just want to produce baby Eastern Indigos. Either way, rushing the process can culminate with an egg bound female, which is no picnic, hard on the snake and can destroy her reproductive potential for the future.
Waiting the extra year will give you increased production, larger clutch size, larger eggs, and reduces a lot of egg binding potential(Though doesnt eliminate it) I have bred them at 5 ft+ only to have them bind...Weeks and a $250.00 vet bill later, i finally wizened up. Best of luck with your Texas cribos.
Sincerely,
Fred Albury
