In Reply to: Advice please!!! My young female just disgorged her meal, posted by Big J on November 15, 2001 at 02:36:55:
: I have dealt with many snakes, but did not think this would be a a serious concern with Indigos. Obviously, this is not a good sign. Have any of you dealt with this situation and what was the outcome?
: She had been eating fine, but then this occurred. She ate a large meal Saturday, 3 hoppers, and disgorged it Tuesday. I was planning to wait at least a week if not more before I tried to feed her a small meal again.
: Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
: Thanks in advance.
big j, probably temperature related. i don't know what your overall temp is but it's probably too warm. drop it [overall] by say 5 degrees, wait 4/5 days and then offer a small meal. keep her on smallish meals for the next several feedings so she can digest easily w/ little trouble. i keep my cribos at room temp most of the year giving them a light only in the winter yet i have never seen them ever bask . they do seem to appreciate the slight overall warm-up that the light provides however. compare that to my brother who has easterns. he tells me that his pair are under the lamp fairly quickly when he turns it on in the morning but only for a while. this no doubt has to do w/ the difference in indigo/cribo coloration. my cribos are quite light in color [golden] as compared to indigos. this is their defense against the rather hot conditions they encounter where they originate from. my cribos never, ever thermoregulate w/ exception only to gravid females. good luck, i'm sure she'll be fine if you give her a slight break from the heat.
