: Out of the 16 babies I produced this year (born in early July) there were 3 that were particularly stubborn to get feeding. I tried EVERYTHING. goldfish, herring, smelt, pinkies, frogs, baby snakes etc etc. I like to use force feeding as a last result, but found out something very cool this year. Force-feeding babies indigos is not REALLY force feeding. Here's what I did:
: Step 1: Hold baby firmly behind head.
: Step 2: Gently pry mouth open with index card
: Step 3: insert fuzzy head in mouth and remove card
: Step 4: Gently press mouth so their the teeth "lock" a bit into fuzzy
: Step 5: Continue to hold (gently) the snake near the head, while it swallows it VOLUNTARILY!
: I performed this twice with all 3 stubborn babies, and they ALL took the fuzzy right down! No pushing or "forcing" necessary.
: They all digested well, and after 2 x's all 3 are now eating GREAT on unscented fuzzies! One is so aggressive it will take them from my hand !
: side note: They may spit it out if you put them back in their cage b4 they finish...so just hold them as they swallow it!
Dean,
Baby Easterns can be a real pain to get to feed initially. Part of the challenge ,I guess. thanks for the tip and hope that all is well with you and yours. Have a peacefull weekend.
Fred
