: because of the cost and red tape associated with eastern indigos, i think i have a better chance of getting a texas indigo. the only thing is that a lot of the reason i want my next snake to be an indigo is because of thier incredible intelligence and behaviorisms. so, does a texas indigo display these characteristics just as much as an eastern? thanks.
: btw- has anyone here noticed that this is almost the only forum on kingsnake where people arent constantly posturing with snake knowledge and playing the all-knowing snake master who is condescending to all other would-be owners who are not as "qualified"? its like a whole nuther culture in here!
You can not go wrong with Texas Indigos!!Personalities are identical to Easterns..No permit necessary out of Texas where they are a protected species and illegal to catch or keep...I was lucky enough to grow up in the Republic of Texas and caught many of these as a kid..I'm an old fart now..The first one was 7 ft +..Pulled and dug out of a varmit hole...Took me over 2 hrs..Never ever attempted to bite, as has been the case with all my Texans ( and all Drymarchons I've been lucky enough to know), except the male Tex I have now..He only bit once, while we were giving him an injection for an ocular infection(my fault)Let me say this was a very deliberate bite by this snake, clearly stating "Don't stick me again, you dumb human!!" Not a strike, a "Bite" for about 3 secs across my thumb...I now know how Indigos can eat turtles!!..They are every bit the size of Easterns..I think they are harder to find than Easterns though...I'll be trying my first breeding with my pair this winter...Hopefully I'll have some fertile eggs and not screw them up!! Good luck with your search...Carl
