: : I have hatchlings that are in shoe box's, so it's kinda tough to keep them cool. I understand that they need to be kept cooler, but it almost doesn't make sense seeing that cribo's come from a pretty warm region. I assume they must hang out quite a bit in water to stay cool, correct??? Thanks to those who gave their advice.....

: hi barry, from what i understand cribos spend most of their time prowling and living in animal burrows and inpenitrable undergrowth far from the rays of the sun. i have two adult cribo pair which i am sure are wc and they are crepusular creatures. active at dawn and evening avoiding the heat of the day. they only bask in the wild when they have been particularly chilled the night before. they have no need for basking lights in captivity, and excepting for a little warm up in the winter, will avoid them the rest of the year. these animals prefer cool to warm, much like the asian elaphe. heat, especially constant heat is not good for them. keeping them on the floor in a northerly facing room may help cool them some. i'd keep them out of any real sunny rooms if it's that hot in the house. good luck barry! btw, that spilotes is doing great and has actually stopped trying to kill me now! lol. dan
