Goldfish from the local pet store and minnows from the local bait store. Usually offered every 4 days or so. Left in their cages long enough for the goldfish to die, rot , and make the place smell!:)
That is the ugly truth. Eventually they will feed well, and then you wont have to waste so many fish and unnecessarily spend your money.
Until then, be prepared to clean out the dead fish
Baby Eastern Indigos seem to respond to the fish flopping around on the bottem of their container, but they can be notoriously problematic feeders. Last year I got a REALLY stubborn one to eat by turning on the a/c full blast and putting the snakes cage with goldfish in it right in front of the a/c.It was about 93 degrees inside the house at that time. So the cold air triggered a feeding response. Or did it? go figure......
