Melanurus or unicolor

In Juli 2000 I've bought a Drymarchon but the dealer wasn't shure about the species.
So I did some research and came to the conclusion that I've had a Drymarchon c. melanurus.
Now I was looking for a female and there was one shipped in. So I ran to the store to get it,but when I saw it I doubted Because the tail was much darker then the species I've got
Now my question "The tail of an unicolor, is it darker then the rest of the body or is it the same as her whole body.
