We've got a couple of experienced breeders with very opposite views on what to do in a certain situation. We all agree, I'm sure, that we really don't know the best course of action for sure.
I think what can be learned is that even the most experienced among us isn't necesarrily 100% sure of the right thing to do.
Just today I decided to cut into an egg I was pretty certain was dead, just to make sure. It was dead alright. When the egg came out at first, it was big and white and looked great. It just died anyway. Sounds like a couple of your snakes just waited longer before they died. Then again, I've had eggs incubate, hatch out, and the babies live 6 months before they died. Anytime there are multiple births like most reptiles have, there are going to be a certain number that just will not survive to adulthood.
I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on as far as the original question goes. My history has been to let the snakes pip the eggs themselves. Then again I've never had to wait more than 2 days from first to last hatch.
Congrats Rob on the surviving babies. Now comes the pleasure of fussing over the ones that lived. Good Luck.
