: Just wondering if in general, Cribos are as laid back as their North American cousins.
Jon,
It has been MY expereince that Cribos usually have a nastier temperament than Drymarchon corais couperi, the Eastern Indigo snake. I have seen VERY tame Melanarus however that defied this thinking completely. Whether this snake was just an exception remains to be seen. Wild caught cribos are DEFINETLY nastier than wild caught Eastern Indigos. At the top of my list for bad temperaments are the yellow tailed cribos, which, in almost every case, were the nastiest snakes I kept at the time. Remember, these are captive raised/bred snakes, not wild caughts or imports.
I am a strong proponent that with consistent handeling and patience, almost ANY snake can mellow out and make a good pet. Snakes are all individuals, and it is hard to predict how they will turn out. (Much like people)
Hope this helped you,
FRED
